Aramsa - The Garden Spa
Aramsa turned twenty this year. Its dozen treatment rooms sit in a garden, and the packages pair a scrub, a massage and an outdoor soak over two and a half hours. When the massage ends, you can stay on in the lounge.
Come here if
- You've got knots you want someone to spend the hour on
- You're planning a birthday or anniversary treat for two
- You're pregnant and want a massage made for it
- You'd like your child to have a short massage or facial too
Maybe not if
- You want a full-body hour for under $100

What people say
Aches and sore muscles
Point out where it's tight before you lie down, and the therapist works those spots for most of the hour.
If you like it firm, book the Inner Respite, the deep-tissue massage, and ask for it as hard as you want.
Booking for two
Plenty of visitors come as a pair, partners, mothers and daughters or two friends, and lie side by side in the couples room with a therapist each.
The room
The treatment rooms look out onto greenery, and you can hear birds through the massage.
Some rooms have an outdoor tub where you finish with a soak, and squirrels sometimes run past while you're in it.
The small extras
Before the massage you smell the oils and pick the one your therapist will use.
The massage bed is heated, and warm towels go on your back partway through.
Afterwards you sit in the lounge over spicy ginger tea that the tea lady makes, with sesame biscuits on the side.
Weddings and events
Say it's a birthday or an anniversary when you book, and the room is decorated by the time you walk in.
Once it's set up, the therapists take the photos for you.
Your first visit
The front desk asks first-timers to come a little early, then walks them round and goes through the form.
Your robe is waiting in the locker, and someone shows you where to sit and where the tea is.
What people say about the price
It's dearer than a neighbourhood massage shop, and the extra goes on the garden, the lounge and the outdoor bath.
On the long packages, the massage itself has sometimes felt ordinary for that money.
